Research

We are a WHOLE plant physiology lab at a land-grant university. Thus, we focus on how roots, stems, leaves and flowers of plants relate to the environment and impact California's agricultural and environmental systems. We have actively pursued research on all components of plants, including roots (see Beans, beans beans!).

Our work often focusses on:

  • unasked questions and assumptions
  • cross scale or integrated approaches
  • observational work followed up by experiments
  • developing new tools and approaches
Tools
We have many tools available to us as plant physiologists, often we design research around what tools we have, but sometimes we should ask "What are the assumptions and limitations of our tools?" or "Do we need to make new conceptual or technical tools to answer our research question?" This often forms the basis of our labs research.
